How does this work?

I value transparency as part of building trust in a therapeutic relationship. Here you'll find information about the beginning of the process as well as FAQs.

Any questions I didn't answer?

The Process

I offer a complimentary 20 minute consultation phone call, where we can get a sense if we might be a good match for each other.

After receiving your inquiry either through email or Whatsapp, I will get in touch with you to schedule a call.

Once we both agree we're a good match for each other and want to work together, we'll schedule the initial intake session.

The intake session is the first therapy session, where I will get to know you better and understand what brings you to therapy at this point.

Before the first session, I will email you more detailed information about my practice policies and make sure you have all the relevant information.

Before your first appointment (and every appointment thereafter), you’ll receive an email with a link to our video session.

FAQs

What is teletherapy or online therapy?

Teletherapy and online therapy are the same thing- therapy via an online video platform. The world of teletherapy gained popularity during COVID-19, offering more opportunities for flexibility, comfort, and convenience, enabling therapy to become a much more accessible experience.

I've never done online therapy before. How do I know if it’s right for me?

While teletherapy is a wonderful tool, it is not right for everyone. It helps to know yourself a bit and your comfort level with online video platforms (think Facetime, Whatsapp video chat). When using these platforms with friends and family, for example, do you feel you're able to be yourself and speak comfortably? That's a good indication of whether teletherapy may work for you.

How will I know if we're the right fit?

Since there are no guarantees for anything, finding the right therapist for you may involve a bit of trial and error (which is completely normal!). A good way to get a sense is very similar to when meeting anyone new - check in how well you connect with the person and how comfortable you feel during the initial phone call.

  • Do you feel comfortable (relatively speaking, you're still strangers at this point)?

  • Do you feel the therapist is giving you space to ask questions and be uncertain?

  • Do you feel the therapist is answering your questions?

If the answer is yes, and you felt like you connected, go ahead and book a session.

What is Play Therapy with adults?

Play is an innate human need, beginning at birth. As we grow older, it takes on a different form. Play Therapy offers a variety of tools we can use as adults such as writing, drawing or role playing.

"It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative the individual discovers the self” (Winnicott, 1971).
